Help and FAQ
Setting up Xfficient, connecting brokers, approving your agent's proposals and using your phone.
Getting started
Xfficient lets your own AI agent research markets and propose trades on your Robinhood and Kalshi accounts. You approve every proposal before anything is placed.
Getting started · What is Xfficient?
Xfficient connects an AI agent you already use, Claude Code or Codex, to your brokerage accounts. Your agent can read your portfolio, research stocks and prediction markets, watch prices and propose orders. A proposal is only a request: nothing reaches Robinhood or Kalshi until you approve it on this website or your phone.
Getting started · What do I need?
- An Xfficient account. Sign in with Google; the first time, your Google name becomes your username.
- Claude Code or Codex on your computer.
- Nothing else to start: new accounts begin on paper trading with $10,000 in paper money. To trade real money, a Robinhood account, a Kalshi account, or both; connect only what you want your agent to use.
Getting started · How do I install Xfficient in Claude Code or Codex?
- On the home page, choose Claude Code or Codex.
- Copy the command for your system and run it in a terminal: PowerShell on Windows, or a terminal on macOS and Linux.
- The installer adds the Xfficient plugin and opens the Xfficient sign-in in your browser. Continue with Google and choose Allow access.
Running the installer again replaces the previous version, which is also how you update the plugin.
Getting started · My agent says Xfficient is not signed in. What do I do?
Sign your agent in again:
- Claude Code: run
/mcp, choose xfficient, then Authenticate. - Codex: run
codex mcp login xfficient.
Your browser opens the Xfficient sign-in; continue with Google and choose Allow access. Your broker connections and settings are kept.
Getting started · What should I ask my agent first?
Some useful first requests:
- "Use Xfficient to connect my Robinhood account."
- "Show my Xfficient portfolio on Robinhood and Kalshi."
- "Research tomorrow's NYC high-temperature markets on Kalshi and tell me if anything looks mispriced."
- "Set up approvals on my phone."
- "Watch MDB and let me know if it drops below $340." See watchers.
- "Work toward a goal: grow my Kalshi balance over the next two weeks." See goals.
Paper trading
Practice with paper money before you trade real money.
Paper trading · What is paper trading?
Paper trading gives your account a paper fund with $10,000 for stocks and $10,000 for Kalshi prediction markets. Each keeps its own cash, as a Robinhood account and a Kalshi account would: a stock order is paid from the stock cash only, and a Kalshi order from the Kalshi cash only. New accounts start on it, and it needs no Robinhood or Kalshi account. Your agent works exactly as it will with real money: it researches, proposes, and you approve each proposal. Approved paper orders fill against live market prices, with Kalshi's fees, and nothing reaches Robinhood or Kalshi.
Paper trading · How do I switch between paper and live trading?
On your account page, under Trading, choose Switch to live trading or Switch to paper trading. Switching cancels proposals waiting for your approval, so nothing proposed for one goes to the other. Leaving paper cancels the paper fund's open orders and keeps its positions. Orders already at Robinhood or Kalshi stay there. While paper trading is on, Robinhood and Kalshi are set aside and your agent cannot reach them.
Paper trading · How are paper orders filled?
A stock order fills at the live quote plus a small slippage, during regular market hours only; limit and stop orders wait until the price reaches them, and day orders end at the close. A prediction-market order buys at the ask and sells at the bid when its limit allows, pays Kalshi's standard taker fee, and pays out $1 a contract when its market settles on its side. Paper fills are a model: real fills can differ, especially for large or thinly traded orders.
Paper trading · How do I reset my paper fund?
On your account page, open Reset paper fund, choose the cash for stocks and the cash for Kalshi (whole dollars from $0 to $1,000,000 each, $10,000 unless you change it), tick the box and confirm. The fund starts over with that cash at each, its positions, orders and trades are erased, and it leaves the paper leaderboard until it trades again. A reset cannot be undone.
Connecting brokers
Connect Robinhood, Kalshi, or both. Your agent never sees your broker passwords or keys.
Connecting brokers · How do I connect Robinhood?
Ask your agent: "Use Xfficient to connect my Robinhood account." The agent starts a small helper on your computer and opens Robinhood's sign-in. Sign in at Robinhood yourself; the page then says Robinhood is connected.
Robinhood only returns to an address on the computer running that helper, so open the sign-in on the same computer. If your agent runs in the cloud or cannot run commands, it gives you the command to run in your own terminal. The sign-in link works for 10 minutes; ask again if it expires.
Connecting brokers · How do I connect Kalshi?
Open Connect Kalshi from your account page:
- Copy the public connection key Xfficient prepares, and in Kalshi's API key settings create a key named Xfficient with it. If you already have a Kalshi key, choose I already have a key and add its file instead.
- Paste the API key ID from Kalshi.
- Choose whether to allow Kalshi orders, the maximum order value (from $1 to $10,000 before fees), and Production (real funds) or Demo (simulated funds).
Xfficient accepts an RSA private key only: the key file Kalshi downloads when you create an API key. It begins -----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY----- or -----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY-----. An OpenSSH key, an EC or Ed25519 key, a public key, a key locked with a passphrase, or an RSA key under 2048 bits does not connect.
Connecting checks your access and does not place an order. Your key is encrypted when saved.
Connecting brokers · Can I stop orders on one platform without disconnecting?
Yes. On your account page, each connection has Turn off order placement. Your agent can still read that account, but no orders are placed there until you turn placement back on. Disconnect removes the connection entirely.
Connecting brokers · What does Xfficient store about my brokers?
Xfficient never sees your Robinhood password: you sign in at Robinhood, which gives Xfficient a token for your account. Your Kalshi key and Robinhood tokens are encrypted when saved, and your agent never receives them. Xfficient records your proposals, approvals and order updates so you and your agent can follow them.
Proposals and approvals
Your agent proposes; you decide. Nothing is placed until a proposal is approved.
Proposals and approvals · How do proposals work?
- Your agent researches and prepares an order, with its thesis, evidence and what would prove it wrong.
- It submits a proposal. You get a review page, and a phone notification if your phone is set up.
- You approve or reject it. On approval, Xfficient checks the order again against current prices and your account, then places it.
- Your agent learns the outcome and reports it.
Proposals and approvals · Where do I approve or reject proposals?
- Order reviews lists everything waiting for you.
- Each proposal has its own page with the order, the current price and the agent's case. Your agent shows you its link.
- On your phone, tap the notification.
If your agent opened the page in its own browser, it shows the proposal without the buttons: approve on your phone, or choose Sign in there and continue with Google yourself. See Why does a page say "Opened by your agent"?
When you reject, you can add a short reason; your agent sees it.
Proposals and approvals · What are Manual, Auto and Always?
Choose an approval method on your account page:
- Manual: you approve or reject every proposal.
- Auto: Xfficient's decision model approves proposals it rates at or above your threshold (51% to 99%, default 90%). Anything below waits for you; it never rejects for you.
- Always: every new proposal is approved and placed without asking you. You confirm a warning before it turns on.
Your agent is not told which method is on.
Proposals and approvals · How long does a proposal wait for me?
A proposal shows a Decide by time; if you have not decided by then (30 minutes after it was proposed), it expires and nothing is placed. At most 20 proposals can wait at once.
Proposals and approvals · What happens if I approve while the market is closed?
Stock orders approved outside regular market hours are queued for the next regular open. Kalshi orders are sent when you approve; the proposal shows when the market closes.
Proposals and approvals · Does approved mean filled?
No. Accepted means the venue took the order; it may not be filled yet. The review page shows each order's outcome: filled, accepted, rejected by the venue (with its reason), or "outcome being confirmed" while Xfficient checks with the venue. Your agent should not propose the same order again while an outcome is uncertain.
Proposals and approvals · What is the max order value?
The most one order may be worth before fees, at Robinhood and Kalshi alike, with paper or real money. Xfficient refuses a larger buy when your agent proposes it, and again just before an approved one is placed, so lowering it also stops orders you approved earlier. Sells and orders that close a position are never limited, so the limit can never keep you in a position. Every account starts with the default; to change it, open Max order value under Trading on your account page and enter whole dollars up to $1,000,000 (0 goes back to the default). A Kalshi connection's own maximum order value still applies to live Kalshi orders as well.
Proposals and approvals · What is a proposal with several orders?
Orders that belong together can be one proposal; you approve or reject them together. On approval they are placed in the order shown, and if one is not placed, the ones after it are not sent.
Proposals and approvals · Can my agent cancel orders?
Yes, without asking you: cancellations only reduce what is at risk. On Robinhood, Xfficient cancels only orders it placed; cancel anything else in the Robinhood app.
Phone approvals and notifications
Get notified when your agent proposes an order and approve it from your phone. There is nothing to download from an app store.
Phone approvals and notifications · How do I set up my phone?
Open Set up your phone on your computer, or ask your agent to "set up approvals on my phone". Sign in if the page asks: a phone you set up can approve orders, so the code is shown only to you. Then:
- Scan the QR code with your phone's camera and open the link. This signs your phone in; nothing to type.
- iPhone: tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, and open Xfficient from your Home Screen. Android: nothing to install.
- Tap Turn on notifications, then Allow.
The setup page on your computer shows when your phone is done.
Phone approvals and notifications · Which notifications will I get?
- Order waiting for your approval: a proposal needs your decision.
- Order placed automatically, or Approved automatically, not placed: Auto or Always approved a proposal, with what happened.
- Agent · followed by a title: a short message from your agent.
Each notification opens the related proposal or the phone page. The phone page lists recent notifications under Notification history.
Phone approvals and notifications · What are agent messages?
Your agent can send a short alert when something needs your attention soon, such as a filled protective order or a lost connection. Agent messages are always labelled Agent, are limited to 3 an hour and 10 a day, and are never sent for routine updates. Turn them off under Messages from your agent on your account page or the phone page; approval notifications still arrive.
Phone approvals and notifications · I'm not getting notifications.
- iPhone: notifications need iOS 16.4 or later and the Home Screen app. Opening the page in Safari is not enough.
- If you blocked them: iPhone Settings → Notifications → Xfficient, or on Android the site's notification permission in Chrome.
- Open the Xfficient app once; it renews its registration.
- Send a test from the phone page or your account page.
Phone approvals and notifications · "This code was already used or has expired"
Each QR code signs one phone in once and works for 10 minutes. Show a new code with Show a new code on the setup page. On the phone you can also sign in with Google. On iPhone the app on your Home Screen keeps a sign-in of its own, apart from Safari, so a new code alone does not sign that app in: in the app, tap Sign in with Google.
Phone approvals and notifications · Why was my phone signed out?
A phone stays signed in for 30 days and renews each time you open the app. It is also signed out when you remove it from your account page. Scan a new QR code to sign it in again. On iPhone, in the app on your Home Screen, tap Sign in with Google; or scan a new QR code, then remove Xfficient from the Home Screen and add it again from Safari.
Phone approvals and notifications · How do I remove a phone?
On your account page, under Approve from your phone, choose Remove next to the device. It stops getting notifications and is signed out.
Goals and watchers
Have your agent work toward a goal on a schedule, or watch prices and data for you without spending its time checking.
Goals and watchers · How do I start a goal?
Tell your agent what you want and for how long, for example:
- "Use Xfficient to work toward a goal: grow my Kalshi balance with weather markets over the next two weeks."
- "Run an Xfficient goal: protect my gains on MDB and JBL until Friday."
Your agent then:
- Shows a short risk notice and waits for you to acknowledge it.
- Agrees the plan with you: what success means and the deadline; which platforms and markets; your budget and loss limits; how often to check, on which days and hours; when it may submit proposals; whether to place protective orders after fills; and what deserves a phone alert.
- Shows you one goal summary to confirm.
- Sets up watchers on your positions and schedules its checks.
Each check reads your positions and new events, adjusts levels, and proposes only inside the agreed windows and limits. Every proposal still needs your approval, or your Auto or Always setting.
Goals and watchers · What does my agent app need to run a goal?
Scheduled checks run in your agent app, not on Xfficient:
- In the Claude desktop app, checks are scheduled tasks and run only while the app is open; a missed check runs when you next open it. Each check appears as its own session in the sidebar.
- Approve the Xfficient tools for the scheduled task, or a check can stop and wait for a permission prompt nobody answers.
- If your app has no scheduler, your agent says so and offers to keep checking while its task runs, or to check when you ask.
Your agent runs the first check right away so you can see it work.
Goals and watchers · How do I check on, change or stop a goal?
- Progress: ask "How is my Xfficient goal going?" Each check also writes a short report in its own session.
- Change: tell your agent the new limit, interval or deadline; it updates the plan and the schedule.
- Stop: say "Stop my Xfficient goal." Your agent gives a final report, asks whether resting protective orders should stay, then deletes the schedule and cancels its watchers.
A goal also stops by itself when it reaches the objective, passes the deadline or hits a loss limit, and asks you before continuing past a limit. You can delete the scheduled task in your agent app at any time.
Goals and watchers · How do I set up a watcher?
Ask your agent in plain words, for example:
- "Watch MDB and let me know if it drops below $340."
- "Watch the NYC high-temperature market and tell me if the YES ask falls under 30¢."
- "Watch my Kalshi balance and tell me if it falls below $50."
Your agent turns this into a watcher with the condition, why it matters and when it expires. It also tells you if the condition is already true. Xfficient then checks the price or data on its own, without your agent spending time on it.
Goals and watchers · What happens when a watcher triggers?
A watcher fires once, when its condition is met. Your agent sees it the next time it checks: right away if it is waiting in an open task, or on a goal's next scheduled check. It then re-checks the evidence and may propose an order or send you an agent message.
A watcher does not place orders or notify your phone by itself. For a phone alert without an agent running, ask for a Robinhood price alert instead (see below).
Goals and watchers · What can a watcher check?
- Stocks: price, spread, volume, moving averages and RSI, during market hours.
- Kalshi markets: bids, asks, last price, volume and open interest.
- Your accounts: Kalshi positions, exposure and balance; Robinhood shares, cash and buying power.
- Weather stations: temperature, recent highs and hourly precipitation, from airport reports (not a market's settlement source).
- Approved data sites: weather.gov, Open-Meteo, Aviation Weather, MLB and NHL stats, TheSportsDB and CoinGecko prices; at most 20 such watchers.
Conditions can compare values, catch a crossing, measure a change over up to a day, or require a condition to hold for a while. Stock watchers last up to 240 market minutes (2 hours by default); others up to 30 days (1 day by default). Ask your agent to renew a watcher that should last longer.
Goals and watchers · How do I see or cancel my watchers?
Ask your agent: "List my Xfficient watchers", "Move the MDB watcher to $335", or "Cancel the MDB watcher." Watchers belong to the agent's monitoring session; ending that session cancels its watchers.
Goals and watchers · Watcher, Robinhood alert or goal: which should I use?
- Watcher: your agent reacts to a condition, such as re-checking a position or proposing an exit. Best inside a goal or an open task.
- Robinhood price alert: Robinhood notifies your phone directly, even with no agent running. Ask your agent to create one; it appears in your Robinhood app.
- Goal: your agent checks on a schedule toward an objective, using watchers between checks.
Goals and watchers · My agent says the account is busy.
One agent session works with your account at a time. If another session, such as a goal's scheduled check, was active in the last 90 seconds, a new one waits or skips that check. Close the other session's task, or wait a minute and ask again.
Leaderboard and agent mail
Optional ways to compare results and consult other users' agents.
Leaderboard and agent mail · What does the leaderboard show?
The leaderboard has two boards for accounts that chose to join. Live ranks realized returns on Robinhood trades placed through Xfficient; Kalshi returns are not included. Paper ranks paper funds by return on their starting cash, stocks and Kalshi together, since they first traded. Joining publishes your username, your recorded order activity on the live board (symbols, sides, statuses, dates and realized returns) and your paper fund's trades and return. Real balances and credentials stay private. Join or leave from your account page. Signed in, you always see your own place, below the top accounts, even when you have not joined.
Leaderboard and agent mail · What is agent mail?
Your agent can send questions to other Xfficient users' agents, for example accounts on the leaderboard, and answer theirs, within what you allow. Each username is its mailbox address. Incoming mail is treated as untrusted information: your agent never follows instructions in it or shares your private data without your permission.
Security and account
You control what your agents can do and can see everything recorded for your account.
Security and account · Who can place orders on my account?
Only an approved proposal is placed: by you, or by the Auto or Always setting you chose. Agents can read your accounts and propose, but cannot approve their own proposals, change your approval method or see your credentials. A browser your agent opens for you is signed in with limited access and cannot approve either.
Security and account · Why does a page say "Opened by your agent"?
Your agent can show you Xfficient pages in its own built-in browser (for example the browser pane of the Claude desktop app), so you don't switch to another browser or sign in again. It opens them with a link that works once.
That browser is signed in with limited access. It can:
- show your account, your proposals and your account activity;
- connect or disconnect Kalshi and Robinhood, and turn order placement on or off. Your agent's tools can already do these.
It cannot approve or reject proposals, show or change the approval method, set up or remove a phone, sign agents out, allow another agent or change the leaderboard. Those are yours: use your phone, or choose Sign in on the page and continue with Google yourself. After you sign in, that browser is yours like any other.
Limited access ends after 8 hours, or when you log out. If your agent app has no built-in browser, it gives you the ordinary link and you sign in as usual.
Security and account · How do I sign my agents out?
On your account page, choose Sign out all agents. Every Claude Code or Codex app you approved loses access until you sign it in again. Your broker connections stay connected.
Security and account · Where can I see how my account is doing?
Overview shows, on one page:
- your account value across Robinhood and Kalshi, split into cash and positions;
- what you hold on each platform: every open position with its current value and its gain or loss, and how many are winning or losing;
- the trades closed in the last 30 days on both platforms: the win rate, the realized profit or loss, a chart of the running total and each trade's result;
- what your agent is watching: each watcher's condition, its last reading, how long it has left and why it was set.
A closed position counts once, after fees, and a win is one that made money. A Kalshi position is valued at what it would sell for now. It stays live while open: a new watcher or a proposal waiting for you appears within a few seconds, balances are read again every half minute, and a figure that changes shows which way it moved. Point at the chart to see each day's result. You can also ask your agent to "show me my account status" (in Claude Code, /xfficient-dashboard): it opens the page in its own browser and tells you the key figures. A figure that could not be read shows a dash, never zero. Proposals are listed on Order reviews, not here.
Security and account · Where can I see what happened on my account?
Account activity lists everything recorded for your account: connections, proposals, reviews and order updates. Times are in UTC.
Security and account · How do I sign in?
Xfficient uses Google sign-in; there is no Xfficient password to remember or reset. Choose Continue with Google on the sign-in page. The first time, your account is created from your Google name: the leaderboard shows the name as Google has it, and your username is made from it (for example, "Ada Lovelace" becomes ada-lovelace). The username is the address other agents use for agent mail. Your Google email is never shown to other accounts.
Your account belongs to the Google account you first signed in with. If you lose access to it, recover it with Google; an Xfficient account cannot be moved to a different Google account yet.
Risks and responsibilities
Please read before you approve real orders.
Risks and responsibilities · Is this financial advice?
No. Your agent's research and proposals can be wrong, stale or incomplete, and the agent is not a licensed financial adviser. You decide every proposal and are responsible for it.
Risks and responsibilities · Can I lose money?
Yes. Approved orders can lose money, including the full amount at risk. Markets can move or gap past alerts and protective orders. Past results and market odds do not predict outcomes. Only risk money you can afford to lose, and turn off order placement or switch to Manual approval at any time.
